Partnering for Today, Collaborating for Tomorrow

LLL would not exist without its partnerships with local schools, colleges, businesses, and community organizations that share a common mission of preparing and assisting Vermont's youth to reach their goals. LLL is an intermediary organization, meaning we connect students and schools to employers, colleges, and state and community resources. In fact, we are one of the founding members of the Intermediary Network, which states that young people need better opportunities, both in and out of school, to gain the knowledge and skills critical for success in college and careers. Employers need a skilled and motivated workforce. Our schools can't do it alone. Yet workplace and community partners lack the time and expertise to navigate public school systems. Intermediaries build and support the necessary connections to help youth succeed.

Many of our programs are in collaboration with other state agencies, non-profits, workforce investment boards, and regional development corporations throughout the state. These include:

Community Partner Recognition Event

Every spring, LLL hosts our Community Partner Recognition Event in order to recognize those that have gone above and beyond to create opportunities for our youth. Last year, we recognized:

Careers: Sheraton Burlington Hotel and Conference Center, Franklin/Grand Isle Workforce Investment Board

College: Vermont Adult Learning, Community College of Vermont

Community: Champlain Valley Area Health Education Center, Burlington Schools Food Service and Vermont Lake Monsters

Outstanding Service: Chris Reck, President of Direct Design and Amy Mellencamp, Principal of Burlington High School.

Also, Maggie Gendron from Senator Patrick Leahy's office and Tricia Coates from Congressman Peter Welch's office highlighted the event with a very special announcement that Linking Learning to Life was awarded a $500,000 federal grant award! This grant was included in the FY 2009 federal budget and will help LLL to sustain and expand College Connections and TIPS student internships as well as support organizational development activities over the next 3 years. The award represents an extremely important and timely investment in the future of LLL.
